Emergency Plumber Charlestown

Charlestown Plumbing Co is the emergency plumber in Charlestown for faults that can't wait: burst pipes, flooding, blocked sewers, gas smells and dead hot water systems. We answer day or night. You ring, we load for the fault, and a fixed figure is named before any work starts.

Routine repairs and full installs sit with the rest of the work on the Charlestown Plumbing Co home page.

What we answer the phone for

The middle of the night sorts the real emergencies from the ones that can hold until morning. These are the calls we attend after hours:

  • Including flexi hoses letting go behind unit walls
  • Blocked sewers pushing up through showers, laundries and shop floors
  • From a failed element to a tank that has split
  • Overflowing toilets and flooded bathrooms
  • Traced and made safe by licensed gas fitters
  • Water services cracking under older driveways and flooding the street

If water is moving through the house or a smell you cannot place is getting stronger, treat it as urgent and ring.

What counts as an emergency?

Three faults should never wait until morning.

Water where it does not belong

A split pipe flooding a floor cavity costs far more than the pipe itself, and the damage keeps growing between now and breakfast. Shut the main and ring.

Raw sewage inside the house

Anything surfacing through a shower or a floor waste is a health risk. It needs attention before anyone uses another fixture, whatever the hour.

Gas you can smell

Do not touch switches, open windows and doors on your way out, and call the gas network's emergency line from outside. Then have the leak found and repaired before anything is relit.

What a night here looks like

Upper-floor hose failures

Unit blocks rising near the Square squeeze dozens of flexi hoses and isolation valves into each building, and a single failure on an upper floor floods the apartments below it. Those calls are urgent for the neighbours as much as the owner.

Ridge-top winter mornings

June on the ridge is colder than in the streets closer to the coast, and the mid-century belt put its tanks in during one replacement wave in the 1990s and 2000s. The first proper cold snap finds the weak ones, and a tank that quits in July means cold showers until it is replaced.

Old supply lines

Water services laid more than sixty years ago under older driveways can split as cars roll over them, sending water out along the kerb. A few houses in the Ida and Pearson streets area still draw their supply through galvanised pipe that has been rusting from the inside for decades.

Late trading, shared mains

The hospitality strip around the town centre runs well past dinner, and a shared sewer main that chokes at closing time cannot sit blocked until the morning. Cafes and venues near Charlestown Square get the same night response as any house.

Burst pipe? What to do before we arrive

  1. 01

    Shut the water off

Turn off the main stop tap at the water meter, usually close to the street. If the burst is under a sink, the isolation valve under it is faster.

  2. 02

Kill the power if water is near fittings

Switch off at the board the circuits covering the wet area. Water and power points do not mix.

  3. 03

    Drain what is left

Run the lowest tap in the house to empty the pipes, which slows any remaining leak to a trickle.

  4. 04

    Lift things off the floor

Get rugs, boxes and electronics up high, and lay towels across the water's path until we arrive.

From your ring to the fix

  1. 01

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3469 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 02

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 03

Stop the water, then fix the fault

On an emergency call we isolate the burst or choke first, confirm the damage has stopped spreading, then repair the line or clear the blockage with the tools on the van.

  4. 04

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

What drives the price of an emergency call?

Once the fault is stopped, the quote depends on what failed and where:

  • The hour A 2am call carries the after-hours rate, which you hear before we begin.
  • What has failed A burst hose behind a laundry cabinet takes a fraction of the time of a split supply run under a concrete driveway off Frederick Street.
  • Access Tight unit courtyards, shared plant rooms and everything under a building add real time to a repair.
  • Parts on the van Hoses, valves and common fittings travel with us; anything specialised gets ordered once you have agreed the figure.

Why the fixed figure matters

Emergencies are the worst possible time to discover a surprise on an invoice. Available 24/7 means the number you ring works at 3am, and the process behind it does not change with the hour.

You hear the repair figure, agree to it, and that is the number you pay. Joan's burst pipe was one of those calls:

"I commend them for their very fast and efficient service when we had a burst pipe." Joan

When we are not the right call

Not every urgent-sounding job is ours. A break in the main on the street side of your boundary is the water authority's to fix, so the phone call sorts that out and you avoid paying for their pipe.

Switchboard and wiring faults need an electrician first. We would rather send you to one at 2am than take a job we should not.

Questions we get on after-hours calls

Do you come out after midnight in Charlestown?

Yes. We are Available 24/7, and a night job runs the same way a daytime one does. Work outside standard hours is charged at its own rate, quoted to you before anyone picks up a tool, so nothing on the invoice is a surprise.

A flexi hose has burst in my unit near the Square. What do I do first?

Shut the isolation valve at the hose or the unit's main stop tap, then switch off power at the board if water is near any fitting. Lift anything valuable clear of the water and knock on the door of the unit below. Then ring, and stay on the line while we go through what else to shut off.

Will an after-hours emergency cost more than a daytime job?

It usually does, because after-hours work is priced differently to standard hours. What does not change is the process: a fixed figure named up front, your go-ahead before work starts, and an invoice that matches the quote. You always see the number first.

My shop floor is flooding on the Pacific Highway strip. Can you help tonight?

Yes. Water across a trading floor is a genuine emergency, and commercial premises get the same response as houses. We will find the source, whether it is a burst line or a blocked drain surcharging, stop it, and give you the fixed figure before the repair begins.
