The Suburb Got Its Drains All at Once

One sewer rollout, sixty years on

Charlestown wasn't sewered until 1959, and that single program laid earthenware drains under front yards across the postwar subdivisions in one go. Those clay lines are past sixty now, and the roots of street trees sit in plenty of their joints.

Shifting ground, shifting joints

The ridge sits on shale topped with reactive clay, which swells in wet months and shrinks in dry ones and works the old collars loose. Cracked joints collect silt and catch wipes, so the lowest drain in the house backs up well before the pipe gives way.

Where we come in

The drain camera shows whether a line can be cleared, relined or needs replacing, and the jetter scrubs the full circumference of the pipe rather than just poking through the choke.

How Quotes Work

The invoice at the end carries the same figure you said yes to.

"Not only all of that but the job came in right on quote." Steve

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours).

Four things set the price:

  • Access A tank wedged into a unit block's courtyard takes longer to swap than one beside a driveway.
  • Pipe material Galvanised, copper, PVC or polyethylene each change the repair and the time it takes.
  • Parts The replacement unit or fitting you choose, and whether it's in stock, sets the materials line.
  • After-hours Nights, weekends and public holidays carry their own rate, and you hear it on the phone before we book.

When we're not the right call. Wiring or switchboard faults need an electrician, and a failed shower membrane or a cracked retaining wall needs a waterproofer or builder. We hand you over on the first call rather than sending a van.

How Booking a Job Runs

  1. 1

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4063 3469 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

  2. 2

    A fixed price first

A plumber inspects the job and names a fixed figure up front. Nothing gets started until you give the go-ahead.

  3. 3

    Diagnosis on the spot

We load for the fault you describe, from the drain camera to the gas detector, so the cause is found while we're at your place.

  4. 4

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Ridge Winters and Storm Season

Cold mornings expose tired tanks

Winter mornings up on the ridge bring more cold and wind than the coastal suburbs below get, and the mid-century housing belt replaced its tanks together through the 1990s and into the 2000s. That batch is reaching the end of its life, and June is when the weak ones quit.

Storm afternoons test the pits

Rain off the roofs and car parks around the Square races into street pits sized for a smaller town, so a summer downpour can overwhelm them and pond water across driveways. Over Christmas the food court and cafe kitchens load the commercial lines with grease, so those are worth clearing before the busy weeks.

Questions From Local Households

Is it free to have someone come out and look?

It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). Calls outside business hours carry their own rate, which you hear on the phone before the job is booked. Ring (02) 4063 3469 and describe the fault so we bring the right equipment.

Can you clear tree roots from an old clay sewer?

Yes. The earthenware drains laid in 1959 have had street-tree roots in their joints for decades. We camera the line first, clear it with the jetter or eel, and reline it if the pipe is still sound enough to save.

Do you work in unit blocks and strata properties?

We do. Unit buildings near the Square share walls full of plumbing, and strata jobs carry building access rules. Tenants get booking confirmation and a pre-arrival message, owners get photos and itemised invoices, and nobody is left guessing what happened.

Are you available on weekends and public holidays?

Yes. Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays are covered like any weekday, with the after-hours rate quoted before we start. An upstairs unit near the Square with a burst flexi hose can flood the flats below, so we take that call whatever the day.

Do you do gas fitting as well as plumbing?

Yes. We're licensed plumbers and gas fitters, so a gas cooktop swap and a dripping tap can be sorted on the same job. We connect cooktops, ovens, heaters and outdoor barbecues, extend gas lines, and track down and repair gas leaks.

How do I know if my hot water tank is failing?

Rusty water from the hot tap, a dripping relief valve and showers running cold halfway through are the usual signs. Many tanks in the postwar streets were replaced in the same era, so plenty are due together. We check yours and tell you whether a repair holds or a new unit makes more sense.
